Crafting a premium brand identity and website for New Zealand's latest specialist stone company.
Crafting a premium brand identity and website for New Zealand's latest specialist stone company.

problem
Natural Stone Company needed a premium brand identity that matched the calibre of its architectural stone installations across New Zealand. As experienced craftspeople stepping into a more visible market position, they lacked the visual language required of a high-end stone installations brand. The challenge was to create a branding system, logo design, and website presence that stood confidently above competitors, justified a significant price point, and could be rolled out consistently across digital and physical touchpoints without becoming complex or costly to maintain.

solution
I led a clear, strategy-driven branding process to define a distinctive and enduring identity for the company. Through structured concept exploration and refinement, the team and I developed a refined visual system that balances strength with restraint. The result is a premium brand identity, logo, and website design that positions Natural Stone Company as leaders in bespoke stone installations in New Zealand, while remaining practical, scalable, and cohesive across social media, print, and large-format applications.

Natural Stone Company began as a passion project between a small team of experienced stone craftspeople who had spent years shaping some of New Zealand’s most impressive home and commercial stone installations.

When they formalised their new business, they needed more than a logo. They needed a brand that reflected the permanence and gravitas of their work. I worked closely with the founders to uncover what truly set them apart: a deep respect for natural materials, an obsession with detail, and a desire to create installations that would outlast their makers, leaving legacies for generations to enjoy.
Visually, the identity blends raw, natural textures with minimal geometric forms, mirroring the harmony between rugged stone and precise craftsmanship. During the ideation phase, AI-assisted exploration played a role in shaping early concepts, making for a cost-effective way to showcase ambitious ideas and visuals, before needing to invest time/budget in the full artworking and production for the brand.
The final, distinctive logomark abstractly represents New Zealand formed from obsidian stone – a nod to the region of Tauranga, where the company originated. Once approved, the concept was meticulously handcrafted into a refined and scalable vector logo supported by clear brand guidelines, ensuring longevity and consistency across every brand touchpoint.
