Turning business-as-usual insurance advertising into something sharper, clearer and more confident.

problem
As one of New Zealand’s largest insurance brokers, Rothbury Insurance operates across 23 locations with more than 53,000 broking clients. Their marketing requirements were constant and wide-ranging, spanning digital campaigns, out of home advertising, print collateral and national signage. The challenge was delivering a high volume of creative work quickly and cost-effectively, all while managing feedback from multiple stakeholders and maintaining brand consistency. They needed stronger creative direction, clearer campaign cohesion, and a higher overall standard of design than they had access too in the past.

solution
I assisted in not just delivering assets, but acting as a true creative partner, forming a new arm to Rothbury’s marketing team. By helping shape briefs, presenting multiple campaign concepts and guiding decision-making, quality and consistency was improved across all touchpoints. Templates were refined, OOH advertising was reworked to better align with the 'Leave it to us' campaign messaging, and complex reports and collateral were designed with clarity and accessibility in mind. The result was a more cohesive national presence that strengthened brand visibility, trust and engagement across New Zealand.

Delivering ongoing design services for a nationwide insurance broker required more than a creative flair. It demanded consistency, speed and strategic thinking across digital campaigns, print advertising, billboards, sales collateral and corporate reporting.

Working closely with head office in Auckland while supporting branches across the country, I became an extension of Rothbury’s internal marketing team. Projects often began with shaping the brief itself, developing multiple campaign concepts, and guiding stakeholders toward a clear, confident direction. With decision-makers spread nationwide, structure and clarity in presentations were key to keeping momentum strong.
The output spanned regional insurance advertising, national out of home campaigns, direct marketing, infographics and long-form corporate reports. Two custom Annual Reports required in depth information design. Every piece needed to reinforce the same message: dependable advice, delivered by real people in local communities.
Alongside campaign work, there was an opportunity to strengthen the brand’s foundations. OOH templates were rebuilt from the ground up to better support the "Leave it to Us" campaign messaging and ensure consistency across billboards, branch signage and print advertising. Over time, the visual presence became more cohesive and recognisable – supporting increased brand visibility, which in turn lead to a consistent rise in NPS scores across New Zealand.
